Stay cool under pressure with Nampak DivFood’s aerosols

For an on-the-go “point and click” society, aerosol deodorants and antiperspirants are easy to use and quick to apply. This makes aerosol cans a popular choice among deodorant brands and their hurried consumers, made apparent by the abundant variety of aerosols available. While there are many companies behind the seemingly endless array of aerosol deodorants and antiperspirants, Nampak DivFood, a division of Nampak, Africa’s largest packaging company, is the only local manufacturer of the aerosol cans.

As one of the few worldwide metal can manufacturers producing tinplate and aluminium aerosols, Nampak DivFood tailor makes products to customer requirements in several sizes, shoulder profiles, and shapes. Designs are printed in striking, high quality detail to reflect any given brand image and give brands better in-store ‘shelf shout’. In addition, Nampak DivFood is able to shape their aluminium aerosol cans – a distinct advantage for a market where packaging shape is perceived to be somewhat uniform across brands.

An example of DivFoood’s capability is a new, award-winning aerosol developed for Dove, who was seeking a more feminine deodorant can for women. Nampak DivFood responded with the first aerosol can to be manufactured outside of the standard straight-sided wall shape. With an upper curve for an easier, more relaxed handgrip, the new aerosol improved the aesthetic appeal of Dove’s pack and provided clear on-shelf differentiation. The typical hard plastic aerosol nozzle was also replaced with a “soft touch” membrane nozzle that aided more accurately pressurized, gentle and quieter spraying. The new, innovative aerosol offered a feminine, soft, smooth and gentle experience, providing a better option for women.

Another of DivFood’s many brand leading clients is Unilever’s Axe deodorant, the world’s number one male grooming brand that needs to keep pace with a fast moving youth market. In line with this, Nampak DivFood developed another innovative, award winning packaging solution - the new Axe aerosol can with a specially designed shoulder profile to accommodate a one piece actuator and twist feature cap. The aerosol design required close collaboration between the Unilever and Nampak design teams and was specifically engineered to support the new twist actuator.

Reflective of DivFood’s printing capability, the on-pack printing and design for the Axe range is also superb (as it is across DivFood’s entire range, [Status]), due to DivFood’s dry offset printing, using a scratch brush effect employing the latest global technology. The tactile feel of the pack was further enhanced by the application of a matt varnish. On the shelf, these aerosols are impactful and command attention, keeping Axe well positioned against its competitors.

As the primary supplier of aerosols to the South African market, DivFood’s aerosol cans combine elegance and convenience, with superb design and functionality to provide a product ideally suited to the household, pharmaceutical and personal care markets.
