Nampak Bevcan joins as international partner to Canvironment Week 2011
New Delhi 13th October 2011: After the global success of Canvironment Week 2010 which brought together international institutions, leading can makers, trade association and different bodies to promote the sustainability of metal can, Hindustan Tin Works Ltd launched Canvironment Week 2011 earlier this year at Metpack and Interpack in Germany.
The movement has now received support from 4 new international partners in 2011 namely Nampak and Collect-a-Can from South Africa, ASA from Italy and Emballator from Sweden.
Erik Smuts Managing Director Nampak Bevcan said “As the first African partners to support Canvironment Week, Nampak Bevcan, Nampak Divfood and Collect-a-Can are excited to pioneer this initiative in South Africa. By lending our support to Canvironment Week – we are giving a global initiative a local platform and shining the spot light on cans in order to educate South Africans on how recyclable cans are. This newly formed partnership with Canvironment Week will enable us to share best practice ideas with the rest of the world, which will help us preserve the environments we operate in.”
Nampak Bevcan and Collect a Can (South Africa, [Status]) in November will be running an art completion with tertiary students of various art faculties across Gauteng where students will have to design a novelty can to mark the annual commemoration of Canvironment Week. It is hoped that by using art as a creative platform and by leveraging the upcoming Green Expo at Cape Town (18th – 20th Nov 2011, [Status]) by exhibiting and hosting a discussion forum with media the message of recycling cans be communicated to a broad audience with the aim of increasing awareness among South Africans on how recyclable cans are.
