Nampak DivFood Durban clinches 2011 SABS Chairpersons Award
Nampak DivFood, South Africa’s leading manufacturer of food cans, aluminium aerosols, general line cans and decorative tinware, has won the SABS (South African Bureau of Standards, [Status]) Chairperson’s Award for 2011. The SABS Chairperson’s Award is a prestigious annual event recognising outstanding performance in operational and quality improvement, enabled by the services provided by the SABS.
The award was announced and presented to Nampak DivFood’s Durban operation at the SABS Annual Gala Dinner on the evening of 14 October 2011 at the Gallagher Convention Centre. It was the highlight of the SABS’ Annual Convention.
Out of the 5000 plus South African companies certified by the SABS, 1200 were invited to participate in this year’s award programme. The selection is based on the companies’ merit in areas such as excellence in business modeling, commercial achievements and demonstrated continual improvements.
Two weeks before the official announcement, Nampak DivFood Durban was informed of their placement in the top three positions in the country, based on demonstrated operational excellence. Two weeks later and the metal packaging specialist was officially number one.
According to Nampak DivFood Durban’s Quality Manager, Kishan Singh, the ongoing SABS audits, together with customer and internal process audits, as well as appropriate global benchmarking, have been key drivers in identifying and implementing process improvement opportunities leading up to the award.
Kishan accepted the award on behalf of Nampak DivFood Durban. The award was jointly presented by Dr Boni Mehlomakulu, Chief Executive Officer, South African Bureau of Standards, and Mr Bahle Sibisi, Chairman, SABS Board.
