Nampak Flexible is top of supply chain at 2011 Logistics Achiever Awards
Africa’s leading flexible packaging manufacturer, Nampak Flexible, received a Gold award at the South African Logistics Achiever Awards dinner held in Johannesburg on Thursday, 29 September 2011.
This year’s Logistics Achiever Awards mark the 23rd year of recognising and awarding logistics and supply chain excellence in South Africa.
Nampak Flexible was judged on supply chain performance relative to other entrants, consisting of professional logistics and supply chain service organisations and major corporations working in partnership with logistics and supply chain service providers.
The judging panel was made up of experts from 10 leading logistics and supply chain management organisations across South Africa. All entries were evaluated on a number of criteria, including business results, sustainability, customer satisfaction, strategy, leadership and innovation, to mention a few.
“To win this award amongst such illustrious competition is a huge credit to our people and our business,” said Nampak Flexible Managing Director, Robin Moore. “Over the last six years and leading up to the award, we have instigated a dramatic improvement in Nampak Flexible’s supply chain and business management processes, with 2011 being particularly successful in these areas,” added Robin.
The judging panel commented that Nampak Flexible had made a great turnaround from 2004 when they were seen as the “underdogs”, to becoming top dogs in 2011. The panel went on to say that Nampak Flexible had exposed them to a number of new concepts – confirming that what the company is achieving within their supply chain is “world-class” and in many instances “cutting edge”.
Accepting the award on Nampak Flexible’s behalf was Grant Page (Supply Chain and Operations Director, [Status]), Nawaaz Kalick (Supply Chain and Procurement Manager, [Status]), Sifiso Ngcobo (Supply Chain Facilitator, [Status]) and Monte Maritz (Strategy Director, [Status]).
The award brings to close a triumphant year for Nampak Flexible in terms of supply chain and business management processes. In March, Nampak Flexible was awarded Oliver Wight accreditation for Capable Integrated Business Planning to the latest 6th edition - the first company in Africa and only one of twelve worldwide to do so. June saw the Flexible team presenting at the annual SAPICS (The Association for Operations Management of Southern Africa, [Status]) conference due to their remarkable business turnaround and its various initiatives, particularly in the supply chain. And in July, the Gartner Group - one of the world’s leading consulting groups - started documenting learning’s from Nampak Flexible as a case study to be used worldwide.
